Diddy and Dixie are on a side-scrolling romp to rescue Donkey Kong from K. Rool and the Kremling Krew in Donkey Kong Land 2, a small-screen interpretation of the Super NES hit Donkey Kong Country 2. There are swimming levels, railcar levels, and many platform levels, in which Diddy and Dixie collect bananas and bop enemies as they navigate their way toward the right of the screen with well-placed jumps. So long as they both survive, players can switch between the two at will. Diddy Kong can't leap as far as Dixie can, but he's quick and agile. Dixie Kong is slower, but she can extend her leaps with a 'copter glide. The Kongs meet up with animal companions along the way, such as the Rambi the Rhino and Squitter the Spider, whose special abilities may allow them to reach otherwise inaccessible areas. The level progression follows that of the Super Nintendo game, but layouts have been redesigned for play on Game Boy. The cartridge features battery-powered game saves.
