The Sony PlayStation (PS/PS1/PS One/PSX) is a fifth-generation 32-bit home video game console released in North America on September 9, 1995. Although 2D capable, Sony's main focus was on superior 3D polygon graphics when compared to its rivals. This console was one of the main contributors in shifting video games towards 3D polygons from the traditional 2D pixels prior to its introduction.
