Relive the events of one of the most popular movie sequels of all-time in "Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back." Released in 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the video game was ahead of its time back in the day, pushing the control and graphic capabilities of the SNES console.
Gameplay in "Super Star Wars" is largely based on the scenes and moments seen in "The Empire Strikes Back" movie. There are three playable characters from which to choose. This includes Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca. Each hero has his own abilities that can help defeat enemies and allow you to easily get through levels. Luke Skywalker can use a blaster gun or a lightsaber. Han Solo has a gun and the ability to throw grenades. Chewbacca can shoot his crossbow or perform a huge spinning attack on enemies who are close by. Extra attack options can also be unlocked as players progress through levels. For example, as a Jedi, Luke has the ability to earn Force Powers that permit him to defeat enemies much easier. Levels are set up based on side-scrolling platform action.
The backgrounds and designs are taken directly from "The Empire Strikes Back" movie. This includes snowy planets, the construction of the new Death Star, and travels through desert planets. Songs from the film series are fully mixed into the "Super Star Wars" levels to give you the best SNES gaming experience. Extra levels in the game feature a variety of flying missions. Also known as "Mode 7," the graphics simulate 3D effects and put you in the perspective of flying and controlling a Star Wars ship. The ship can shoot down other ships, travel across obstacles, and make its way to specific parts of the level as you play. Flying missions match up with the same types of scenes featured in the movie. "Super Star Wars" is known to be one of the more challenging franchises on the SNES console.
