Victorious Boxers 2 continues the anime-inspired storyline and boxing role-playing elements introduced in its 2001 predecessor. While the game includes the usual exhibition, tournament, and arcade modes found in most sports offerings, its career mode goes beyond creating a boxer and challenging higher ranked opponents. Instead, added emphasis is placed on a boxer's training and conditioning regimens between each fight, from developing a diet and maintaining proper nutrition to monitoring fatigue and stamina levels while working out.
Over 30 fighting techniques can be mastered as players nurture their created boxer over a 50-year career. Eighteen weight classes, six official boxing associations, seven fighting styles, and five countries are available, with the latter offering distinct gyms, trainers, and sparring partners. While in the ring, boxers can be controlled directly by players or issued commands through a strategic coaching interface. Players can even watch videos of their opponents before a match, allowing them to adjust their boxer's training to address a rival's identified strengths or weaknesses. Victorious Boxers 2 is based on the Japanese manga and anime series, "Hajime no Ippo" or "Fighting Spirit."
